GBCA Icicle Regatta Saturday January 12, 2013
A day with all kinds of weather from one reef to dense fog to little wind all the way to almost broaching during a squall at the finish.

Special thanks to Ken: he took the old spinnaker pole to the second hand shop and collected the new old one (a pole for the price of a new fitting!) and had to face the grumpy owner of the shop. He later exchanged the broken switch of the bilge pump for a new one all properly soldered and as always leaving things more organized behind than he found it. Bottom line: always have a dentist on the crew they are really good with mirrors and small tools in small places! It is always wonderful to get some help keeping Joan III in tip top shape which is a lot of work for one person. John’s and Ken’s practical contributions are very welcome.
We had some filter issues appearing again so we will use the spare filters shortly.
Bill was on the helm this regatta which gave me a new view on the proceedings and an opportunity to use my arms on the winches! I took over during the first mark rounding which by any measure showed "chaos concentrated" and proves that when 30 boats point at the same mark they will eventually all end up at the same spot! At least 3 collisions which we decided to stay far away from.
Larry (Kathy) thanks for the cookies, Bill for the coffee and Matt for the sandwiches.
