Acquisition of an Alberg 37
Joan III     acquisition   before   survey   restauration   after  Carl Alberg   The Alberg 37

Picture
October 12, 2010 we have bought a 1975 Alberg 37 from Ashley and Stephanie Walker who have sailed the yacht enthusiastically for about 10 years.

We are the third owners of this Whitby Ontario Canada built classic long keel yawl.

The picture to the left is on the day of the technical survey by Louis Stahlberg.

A sea trial can be fun and with a real nice breeze

Picture
Compared with the wintery conditions of the Joan II sea trial with John Kolius the sail of the then still "Good News" was more of a gentlemen's affair.

Far left Maarten on the helm, in the front right Ashley and the huddled person in the back is Don Marullo of HSH Yachting the broker.

Lou Stahlberg and Mike Firestone are the leaders in surveying here in Texas.

Lou is very knowledgable and understands older yachts. After 35 years not all will be right but not everything is a deal breaker either.

I very much enjoyed working with him and I learned a lot in the process. One tning I learned is that you need to be flexible to get into all the small areas. Don't get fooled by the long hair. Lou is a retired USCG officer and has many years of experience. This survey lasted from 700am to 700pm.
