The Van Hasselt Eischen Pennant

Home>Family Flag>The Van Hasselt Eischen Pennant

The flag used by the Van Hasselt-Eischen family is designed using the following logic.

Joan's family crest colors are red and blue. Maarten's are green and yellow. The national flags of Joan and Maarten (USA and Netherlands) have the colors red, white and blue. We met in Brazil and the colors of that country's national ensign are green and yellow.

All this combined gives the flag as shown. Care has been taken that this doesn't look like any nation's flag or signal flag. Some confusion sometimes occurs when people think it is the South African flag but as you can see this below that is quite different.

And while we are at flags here is some history on the Dutch and USA flags you will see on our yachts on the starboard spreader and mizzen mast respectively (when not racing, during maritime daylight and when on board or near).
